Careful observation and assessment of children

Introduction
Careful observation and assessment of children is essential to planning appropriate learning experiences for them.  How can teachers with a myriad of tasks to do every day possibly squeeze in observation and assessment? How will use you use observation throughout the day? How will you use observation and assessment to plan appropriate learning activities?
The Assignment
For this discussion board you will explore the many purposes, methods and uses of observation and assessment. Your DB has several components.

^After watching the 2 video discuss your findings, in a summary paragraph, with your classmates by addressing the following questions: (minimum of 5 sentences)
Why is it important for teachers to understand the importance of observation in relationship to assessments?
How should a teacher use observations?
What are types of observation assessments?
*During the video “Observing Young Children”, 3 specific scenarios are discussed about Joey, Marissa and Salvatore.  In addition to the summary paragraph, choose one of the children to discuss.  For this part of your discussion the following 3 areas must be addressed:
What was the issue/concern with the child? (include which child you chose)
How did the teacher use observation as an assessment tool and what was she looking for?
How did using observation improve the child’s skills? what were the results?

Example.

Assessment is a method by which we "observe" children's learning, attempt to comprehend it, and then "put our understanding to good use. When we pay close and sensitive attention to children, we can tell when they are learning. The richness of children's play and interaction can be appreciated when they are observed with an open mind. We can be aware of what children know and can do through assessment and observation. We can use this information to ensure that our services and interactions align with their needs and abilities (Observation, assessment and planning, 2016).
Additionally, adults can understand children's learning and development by assessing and observing their learning. By demonstrating how children develop and use language to enable them to think and communicate with others, attentive, careful, and detailed observation, followed by a well-informed evaluation, can assist us in planning. We can comprehend how they cultivate and maintain relationships and their moral and emotional development. We can celebrate and view children as individuals using this assessment and observation method, surpassing normative progressive expectations and results measures. This article aims to determine how early childhood assessment and observation support, assist and inform planning for a child's holistic development.
