Physicians and hospitals rely on one another to fulfill their roles in providing health care and remain financially viable. Doctors see the majority of patients in an office setting. They still need immediate access to hospital facilities, though. In addition, they rely on hospitals to conduct their patients' diagnostic tests. When forming a relationship, doctors and hospitals can choose from at least three agreements, contract, employment, membership in the medical staff, and clinical privileges (Harris, 128). Hospitals may agree to employ physicians in an employment relationship. Employees are paid by their employers while under their authority, as is the case in every employment sector. Hospital-employed physicians are affected by this. The physician is an independent contractor rather than an employee in a contractual relationship.
In contrast to an employer, the hospital cannot instruct the contracted physician on how to perform their duties. The only thing it can do is make the doctor do the agreed-upon things. For example, the hospital might work with a professional organization that hires individual doctors as employees rather than dealing directly with one doctor.
