You are responsible for preparing a presentation (Part 1) - 30% and a report (Part 2) – 70% on the subject of Projects and/or Logistics.

Both parts of the module assessment are based on the same assessment topic/brief.

This assessment brief details the requirements for Part 1 of the module assessment. Part 2 requirements are detailed on a separate brief.

Assessment brief

As globalisation has increased, the world’s supply chains have become substantially more interconnected. Moreover, as emerging market economies have steadily come to account for a greater proportion of global GDP, goods often have more stages to pass through before reaching the end consumer. From national lockdowns to closed airspace and borders, COVID-19 has resulted in unprecedented disruption to the mechanics of most economies, regardless of their size or stage of development. In particular, the erection of these barriers has placed a major strain on the world’s supply chains and logistics, including essential linkages relating to food, medicines, and other industries (Oxford Business Group, 24th April 2020).

Various projects around the world are being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in numerous ways, and many projects have stopped.

COVID-19 is not rendering projects altogether impossible to complete, but is slowing them down. This is causing delay and disruption, even if only because supply chains have been severally interrupted. Many projects have even stopped, usually with the intention to resume work at a later date.

In addition, following the decision of the UK government to leave the European Union on the 1st of January 2021, a number of UK and European leading experts have issued warnings regarding the implication for Projects and Logistics across considerable number of industrial sectors.

Following the current crises, organisations will have an opportunity to learn from the challenges they experience and take steps that will strengthen their supply chain and the way they plan and execute projects.

Critically discuss the impact of COVID-19 and Brexit, the lessons learned so far and their potential impact in Projects and/or Logistics. In doing so utilising academic and non-academic (practitioner) sources and undertake research to explore the legitimacy of the above statements.

You could focus your arguments in any sector of your interest i.e. Pharmaceutical, Food, Construction, Automotive, Healthcare, Education, Tourism, etc.

You will need to take the following into account when planning your presentation:

  • Clarity of content of your presentation;
  • Quality of a relevant literature review that helps inform your discussion;
  • Clarity of argument and integration of different components in relevance to Projects and/or a Logistics context;
  • Allocation of credit and sources used (have I included references and citations to the material I have used?);
  • Use of examples, figures, tables, illustrations and statistics that indicate wider/independent reading;
  • Overall presentation structure including spelling and grammar;
  • Adherence to nominated time (10 mins)
  • As a guidance a presentation of up to 10-12 slides should be sufficient.

Your aim is to prepare and submit your presentation on time on the module assessment topic as described on the brief and to:

Record a presentation on your initial findings, direction, and approach. Time limit: 10 mins

Following your presentation your tutors will provide you with formative feedback that can contribute towards your final report (Please see assessment brief part 2 for details).
