Home > African American artist Ernie Barnes
Thss paper provides an analysis of an African American Artist, Ernie Barnes. Throughout this course, you have been presented with a variety of learning resources and experiences that have shed light on the history of Black Art in America.
We have touched upon major movements, artists, some issues of marginalization, contested histories, and, at times, lost histories. In this thematic paper, choose an artist who for you represents an area that we have either not covered or an area that has suggested a gap in the history of African American art to which you would like to make a contribution.
Choose one artist, to go in-depth in terms of his/her contribution by describing their overall body of work and 3-5 examples; while placing that artist within the art historical narrative. This means attach your research to a movement, historical event, or stylistic development that is well documented, researched, and annotated through your citations (or footnotes) and Works Cited (or bibliography).
Your choice of artist will become the basis of your final project, which will be due at the end of term. Your final paper is required to be 8-10 pages. The purpose is for you to have an opportunity to spend more time with a topic that really strikes you and has made an impact on your understanding of African American Art history.
Proposal Format: one page either in a narrative or outline form, 1.5 spacing, 12 point type; MUST include citations/sources done to academic standard. Points will be deducted if this is missing or not done properly.
